The SCSN has joined 150 organisations in signing a joint letter to the First Minister Humza Yousaf urging him to ensure that his first Budget as First Minister includes significant additional investment across government portfolios to tackle child poverty.
Tackling poverty is a key concern in building safer communities in Scotland. Across a broad range of community safety issues, poverty and inequality are underlying causes/contributors. We know that poverty and deprivation is associated with higher levels of social problems like crime, anti-social behaviour and problematic alcohol & other drug use.
Poverty and deprivation also impacts on other safety issues – including safety in the home, with people living in more deprived areas more likely to experience unintentional harm and injury.
